A beginner’s drugstore kit
If you are getting into make-up and you don’t know what products to try I bring you a post with my picks form the drugstore. When I was a teenager I don’t remember seeing so many great products from the more affordable brands but right now you really don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a versatile make-up kit. I am going to try to keep it short so I will list my favourite brands for each category. I will link places to buy them for as many products as I can but bare in mind you might need to change the country, the Spanish site might appear at first, sorry! I hope you enjoy it and that you find it useful!
Foundation: my favourite foundations from the drugstore are from Bourjois. I did a post on the ones I have, you can read it here. They can really compete with high end brands. Rimmel London True Match Foundation is a good one too because the shade range is good, as always drugstore brands don’t think about darker skintones. Revlon Nearly Naked foundation is wonderful as well.
Concealer: Rimmel London Wake Me Up concealer, Soap & Glory Kick Ass concealer or Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer are te best ones I have tried so far.
Powder: Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent is all you need and it is super affordable. If you live in the UK/Ireland though, Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot is fantastic as well.
Bronzer: Bourjois has three different bronzers and all of them are great and not too shimmery. Rimmel London also does a nice one which has similar packaging to the powder shown in the picture. The Body Shop Honey Bronzer, in my opinion, is a tiny bit better in terms of undertone but it is a little bit more expensive I think; however, they always have offers ands discounts so you can get it a bit cheaper. I think with the Bourjois ones you can’t go wrong though.
Blusher: I had to include Sleek blushes or blush palettes here. They are super pigmented and there is a huge range of colours to choose from. I think no other brand compares to them. If you want to try cream blushes, the Topshop ones are great, I have four of them and I love them.
Highlighter: I am not a highlighter person, I barely use it, but again the Topshop cream highlighters are amazing.
Eyes: if you read my blog you’ll know that I am not an eye make-up person, but I have found some products that are easy to use. The Maybelline 24h Colour Tattoo eyeshadows will be your best friend because they are cream formula which makes them very easy to use. For powder eyeshadow, L’Oréal Colour Infallible Eyeshadows are beautiful as well (post here). Sleek does great eyeshadow palettes as well. For pencil eyeliner, Rimmel Scandaleyes eye liners are awesome but if you prefer a liquid or gel formula, L’Oréal and Maybelline also have your back (post here). In terms of mascara, Maybelline, L’Oréal and Max Factor do great ones and they have different options with different brushes so that depends on your personal preference.
Lips: if you are not a big lipstick wearer then a good place to start are the Revlon Lip Butters. They have pinks, peaches, berrys…everything! Some of them are more pigmented than others and they feel very comfortable on the lips, which is good if you have just started experimenting with make-up. For lip gloss, NYX Butter Glosses (post here) are a great option and super affordable.
I hope you found this useful and I will make sure I update this post if I find new gems in the future!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Rimmel eyeliner, Maybelline Color Tattoos and The Falsies. Some of my faves too!
I have just started using the original The Falsies and so far I am very happy with it! Thank you so much for reading!
Wish I could get Bourjois products in the US…other than that I love ALL of these!
Thank you! I think you might be able to get them in ASOS but I am not completely sure!
